PHYSICAL PROTOTYPING
After narrowing down to 3 potential concepts after crit, I started to experiment with physical mechanisms to see which ones would fit my design concepts

BREADBOARD MODELING
To test the initial wiring and component specification from my research, I made a simple one panel scissor mechanism. The Cardboard model was to test the IMU sensor and see whether the posture detection worked in theory.

INTEGRATED MODEL
The full integrated model had fully working servo motors attached to scissor mechanisms acting as blinders for focus.
INITIAL FINDINGS
This proved to be a good proof of concept and using this tutorial, I created a simple cardboard helmet for everything to get attached to clean and comfortably.

FINAL MATERIAL CHOICE
For the final model I decided to make it look like a chefs hat, which made me use mylar for the final material. The side panels were laser cut and then folded precisely to match the scissor mechanism's movement. It allowed it to extend and collapse exactly how I wanted.

INTEGRATED SYSTEM
The system uses the spine mounted IMU sensor that measures gravitational acceleration to see which part is down. This relays to the Servos and LED's.
INITIAL FINDINGS
First stage has the blinders at rest out of the periphery and LED is Green to seem inviting. Second stage the LED is Yellow as a warning and doors are slightly out. Third stage the blinders go all the way out blocking periphery and LED turns Red telling people to back off.
